Article: Moderator FAQ

So you’re interested in how the Moderators work eh? Well take a peek in here to have some commonly asked questions answered by the moderating team.

Are Master Moderators in charge of normal forum ninjas or are they all equal?

Master Forum Ninjas are slightly above the Moderators, but not by much. If a regular Ninja has an issue, a question or a problem user, than they can contact any of the Master Forum Ninjas for advice or help. Master Forum Ninjas are the step before the Moderators would have to contact Bungie with problems or concerns.

How does one become a forum ninja?

Forum Ninjas are selected on a number of characteristics such as community involvement, length of time on Bungie.net, knowledge of Bungie and Bungie games and should have extensive knowledge of the English language along with proper grammar. If candidates meet these requirements, they may be potential Forum Ninja material and are abducted, sealed in a black room, beaten with a wet noodle and finally starved for seven days until they are released back into the world naked and confused or find themselves chained to a computer desk in Bungie’s mop closet.

What's the difference between the gold and salmon lettered moderators?

Salmon text signifies that the user is a Bungie.net Moderator and the gold text means that the user is a Bungie.net Employee. Employees are also accompanied by a gold Septagon which appears next to threads that they have replied in or started.

How the devil do certain (seemingly random) Mods become Master Forum Ninjas?

Master Moderators are chosen for their wisdom over the forums, also it doesn’t hurt that they’ve managed to keep their partial sanity for the time that they’ve spent on the Bungie.net forums.

As for the rumor of Yoozel drinking the Web Master under the table, it really can’t be verified since they have never really stopped... it's all a matter of who's liver gives out first.

How come only the Master Forum Ninjas can edit blacklistings?

It is one of the added features of being a Master Moderator. It helps them control users that are possibly causing amuck with the regular Ninjas or that deserve more than a seven day vacation.

Can I report bad moderators?

If you feel that you have been wronged by a Moderator or have an issue about a Moderator that you would like to have addressed, your first step is to contact a Master Forum Ninja. After you have made contact with them, they will be able to take care of the issue, or advance it to Achronos.

How many Moderators are there?

Enough to keep the kiddies scared enough to stay in bed. We're everywhere...

wooosh.

Did you see that? That's what we call efficiency.

Do bungie employees moderate?

From time to time employees may poke around the forums, but the vast majority of the moderating relies on that of the Forum Ninjas.

How old do you have to be to moderate?

Old enough to have a firm grasp on the English language and functional grammar skills.

Do the mods come on at different times during they day as they please or is there a set schedule?

Moderators are not responsible for any set number of hours and can moderate at their own pace or whenever they find that they have the time.

How much do you get paid?

Not enough... sorry, we'll have to start charging to use the forums.

Do you ever block users? How often?

Moderators will not intentionally block members, only ones who truly deserve. All the Moderators are patient and helpful people, as they will always do their best to help a user in any way possible. But we do have a right to ignore people who insist on being jerks to us.

If I try to join HFCS, will I really be smited? If so, how?

]Excessive attempts to join HFCS could be fallowed by a minor time out from Bungie.net, but as always… people will be dimwitted and try to join whatever they aren’t allowed too… maybe it’s time we get some fences and landmines like...Area-51… yeah...

I'd like to know how the forum is run in HFCS. Is it a lot like other forums in other groups or is it just an archive of information. Do you ask each other about decisions you need to make. Just, how does it work?

Very privately...

Is it true that your powers don't transfer into chapters?

That is true, Moderators have no powers in groups unless delegated out by the group’s founder or staff members.

How is forum policy decided on? What is the process?

Forum Policy is dictated by Bungie and we are to carry out their directions/rulings.

Are there certain guidlines you must uphold as a mod? Besides the rules, is there like a Mod code of conduct?

Moderators must uphold the Rules of Bungie.net (Code of Conduct, Terms of Service included) along with a strict set of martial rules which we found in a crumbled up piece of note book paper in the downtown L.A. area.

Do you guys pick where you moderate, or are you assigned certain forums?

Moderators are not assigned to any particular forum, we all moderate what we can.

Do you have a set number of hours that you're supposed to be online moderating, or is it whenever you want? And if you do have a set amount (bare minimum), do you have to sign in somewhere special so someone knows you're on?

]Moderators are not ordered to moderate any set amount of hours/days, remember this isn’t a paying gig so Ninjas can moderate at their discretion. And no, Moderators sign into the same page that everyone else does.

Do you have some special warning system that you pin to users, without their knowledge, so you remember whether its time for a week away from bungie, or is it all based on memory?

Yes...there is a warning system in place now. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Is it required of you to moderate at Bungie IRC Channels? Or is that opional?

Moderators are in no way obligated to keep the peace in any IRC channel as it is not Bungie’s jurisdiction to control.
