Contract User Interface Artist/Designer

Bungie is seeking a User Interface Artist/Designer to work with game designers to help develop new user interface experiences through the creation of illustrations and motion graphic prototypes. Candidates should possess exceptional visual and user interface design skills, as well as experience in user-centered design. The applicant must exercise a good eye for aesthetics but at the same time be able to grasp and distill highly complex issues.

Essential Functions:

  • Create illustrations and example screens as well as simple prototypes to help iterate on UI design ideas.
  • Work alongside art directors and game designers to concept, create and test 2D designs as the visual interface that drives players through our games.

Other Qualifications:

  • Expertise in visual design using Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and/or other design related software is highly desirable as well as experience in sketching and storyboarding of UIs.

Essential Qualifications

  • In depth knowledge of visual design, composition, color theory and understanding of how to communicate effectively with design and motion graphics

Essential Qualifications

Contract Character Rigger

  • Designing mechanics which drive in-game player reward and incentives.
  • Give players long-term goals to invest them in the world and their character.

User Research Design Lead

This ranges from pre-release usability studies and user playtests, to long term gameplay analysis covering years of data gathering. You will engage directly with the Bungie design team to cultivate your knowledge of the desired experience. With that knowledge and your expertise in user research, you will isolate the important questions to ask. You will design and manage usability tests, define datamining instrumentation, perform data analysis, and present your answers to those questions through impactful visualizations, written analysis, and collaborations that inform our ongoing and future design plans.   • Exceptional creative writing skills, especially in service of vivid, complex, memorable characters

User Interface Design Lead

As Bungie's User Interface Design Lead, your goal will be to design a consistent, rich, and logical architecture for our UI across all platforms and portals, and then realize that goal as you drive it through production. You will communicate your designs through documentation, flow designs, and functional prototypes. You will collaborate with our graphic artists to design and deliver a rich and interesting experience, and with our designers to ensure intuitive integration with the in-game experience. You will work closely with all departments as you drive your design through all phases of production. You will collaborate with User Research to test that our UI is ultimately accessible and user friendly. You will work with the Test and Localization teams so that our UI designs are localization friendly and platform compliant. Server Programmer

Bungie Studios is looking for an experienced developer of server-side software to create and maintain scalable services to communicate with our games and our internal development tools. The Developer will generally use C# and SQL Server, authoring new tools and services and maintaining and expanding existing ones. Existing databases in this toolset have reached 50 billion rows, and 89,000 transactions/sec, so a firm understanding of performance and scalability is essential.

Essential Functions

  • Design scalable, reusable software pipelines for processing and exposing large quantities of data with the flexibility to adapt to changing interfaces as the game code evolves at the same time as the toolset.
  • Write clean, well-designed C# code to implement these original designs as well as to fit in to existing tools that need to grow over time.

Plan, deploy, and maintain complex environments as Bungie’s Senior IT Engineer. We’re looking for candidates who can solve bizarre problems and tackle unusual technology related requests by employing the deadly art of Datacenter-fu.

Key Functions

  • Support, design and build out technology to support the development and production environments for Bungie’s games.
  • Work with team members to troubleshoot complex issues and work with lower tier support on escalations.
  • Investigate and keep up with new technology to identify where our projects and environments can benefit from its use.

At least 5 years experience in supporting the following:

  • Experience managing mid to large projects over weeks/months including scheduling, budget, and resource coordination.
  • Knowledge of datacenter and live production best practices and experience working in live high availability customer facing production environments.
  • Experience working multiple vendors to select and test new technology, including sourcing demo and trybuy gear.

Server Software Management Engineer

It’s launch night. In fifteen minutes, several million frenetic customers are going to race home from their game store’s midnight festivities and log on to your servers all at once. But that’s ok -- you’re prepared. You’re calm. And you have a wall of monitors around you tracking the health of nearly a hundred machines and the better part of a petabyte of storage. You’re about to launch a Bungie game.

Bungie is looking for a generalist engineer to keep our server software purring on our datacenter servers. (We’re a Windows shop.) Responsibilities include:

  • Writing management and monitoring dashboard apps for centralized, custom app management (in C#)
  • Keeping an eye on our SQL Server databases looking for ways to improve app performance,
  • Keeping SQL backups running smoothly for 10+ TB databases.
  • Carving up disks into RAID arrays to find the best level of performance and reliability
  • Configuring IIS to host our WCF services and web sites
  • Designing and testing server setups to accommodate massive crushes of traffic during launch periods
  • Understanding our server app data flow to be able to re-route traffic to alternate servers for maintenance windows
  • Working with Ops/IT to ensure patching goes smoothly during off hours
  • Being the first line of defense when Ops escalates a datacenter problem - fixing it or dispatching it to another dev to fix.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience working on user-facing production servers in a high-availability environment
  • Solid programming skills in C# and SQL.
  • Deep understanding of Windows Server, IIS, Active Directory, Performance counters, etc.

Content Coordinator (Contract)

The Content Coordinator is held accountable for the scheduling and workflow of a section of artists, graphic designers, writers and vendors. This position manages and prioritizes the daily activities and workflow for both internal and external projects for marketing, PR, advertising, promotion, franchising, bungie.net and media teams. The Content Coordinator is responsible for assisting the directors and managers with schedules for this team, setting assignments, and supporting communication with the Publisher.

Essential Functions

  • Understand and coordinate the processes in project creation and adapt them to meet the myriad of form factors for screen printing, embroidery, book making, stationery, engraving, posters, placard and all related marketing materials.
  • Coordinate the packaging /collateral with marketing and design firms.
  • Compose and communicate weekly updates to all applicable stakeholders.
  • Track invoices and match purchase orders.
  • Collect and assess bids for various printed materials and design services.
  • Organize and maintain print samples and art discs.
  • Provide directors, managers and producers with all necessary input to plan, schedule, assign, and track the detailed tasks related to specific projects.

  • A comprehensive understanding of the skills, roles and responsibilities for assigning tasks and duties to others.
  • Flexible attitude; ability to adjust and adapt to changing needs, priorities, and requests.
  • Familiarity with video codecs for broadcast and web applications on both window and mac platforms.
  • Thorough knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, Maya, 3D Studio Max and other software applications.
  • Passion, enthusiasm and thorough knowledge of the gaming industry.
  • Two or more years relevant working experience.
  • Undergraduate degree or completion of a certificate program that provides an education in the fundamentals of art.

Software Tester (Contract)

Bungie seeks software testers for assignment on location in Kirkland, WA. Applicants must be detail oriented, organized, motivated, and capable of working with a team in high pressure situations. Must also be capable of working under development and test managers, able to closely research bugs, able to narrow down reproduction cases, and be ready to adapt to a fast moving, reactive, efficient work environment testing industry leading games and technology.

Essential Functions

  • Researching and reporting software defects (bugs).
  • Verifying and testing bug fixes.
  • Takes direction from and reports to Test Managers.
  • Must learn to operate and leverage test tools: Bug Database and other Bungie developed tools.
  • Execution of written test cases.
  • May be asked to assist leads with administrative duties.
  • May be assigned as a mentor / area owner depending on experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Flexible with work hours: Must be able to commit to 40+ hour weeks. Overtime availability and late shift availability are strongly desired.
  • Punctual in attendance and completing assigned tasks.
  • Strong comprehension of computers and videogame software/hardware.
  • Vast exposure to professional, high tech environment.
  • Leadership experience in test or similar technical field is a plus but not required.
  • Analytical thinker. Strong independent problem solving skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Computer Science and/or equivalent work experience or training is preferred.
