This is pretty much unplayable at the minute, the lag is ablsolutely horrific. Its impossible to hit anything with the sniper and laser and its so annoying when youve got the sword or shotgun, because you always end up missing.

I played two games as the host (my first two) and I got Killing Frenzys in both of them, I wondered how everyone else was doing so bad, but now I know :( This gametype has serious potential, but if its anything as laggy in the full game as it is in the beta its a waste of a gametype.

Please please fix the lag because its so good when its not laggy.

Some games the input delay wasn't too bad for 6 people. We think a guy over in Japan on our team kept getting host though since he wasn't having a problem with inputs at all while we all were getting a pretty big delay.

Not that big of an issue, but here is a vid of some geometry clipping on the map.

I've played a couple games now and I have some ideas that would make the gametype better.

-Generators can take more damage.
Maybe increase the damage they can take by 1.5x or even 2x. The generators seem to get destroyed fairly quickly.

-Make Power weapons essential to destroying the generators.
When I was in a game as an Elite, I could do more damage with a Plasma Repeater (holding trigger until it overheated) than the Spartan Laser (All 4 shots).

-Visual Queues.
Every Generator has a shield waypoint over it. Maybe there should be 3 different waypoints instead of just one. There should be separate waypoints for: "Under Attack" (Red), "No Shield" (Yellow), and "Shields On" (Blue)

Edit: Oh one more thing. Enemies don't always show up on motion detector (when they are running)

Edit2: Why are our armor colors randomized? Why not use our custom colors?

I agree, there's also an insane amount of delay between when I click a button, and the response.

Playing for fun.

Generator Defence is pretty awesome and I hope it shows up for full release in form or another, in a Invasion tier or its own gametype. Overlook is a beautiful map too.

I'm curious to what they are exactly testing though, the slight lag reminds me of when I played 4 player campaign through Halo 3.

2 Things that I've Noticed Quite Quickly.

-When you Begin as The Spartans, If you Walk into Another Player Some of Their Sheild will be Knocked Off. Not Big, But Thought you Guys would Like to Know about it.

-When you save a Clip/Screenshot on Overlook, it Will Say in the Description "Overlook on _____", Where a Random Difficulty Setting is Placed instead of the ______.


Also, I've noticed That Whilst Near Generator B, There tends to Be a Lot of Splatters Occuring, Although No Objects are Involved (Ie, Someone Throws a Grenade, It Goes off, People Get Splattered Just by the Blast).

I just played my first game of Network Test 1/Generator Defense. Unless something changes, it will also probably be my last.

It seems like it's running in "synchronous mode" -- just like online co-op campaign, and ODST Firefight, your inputs don't reflect in-game until they've gone to the host and back, resulting in input lag. i.e., you press the "jump" button, but it takes half a second before you actually jump.

This is exactly the reason I very rarely play Live co-op or Firefight. I can't deal with such latency between controller inputs and actual actions.

Synchronous mode might be adequate for cooperative play, as in the place it's been used before; but it is simply unacceptable for competitive game modes, as it puts everyone else at a *massive* disadvantage to whoever's hosting the match.

I'm assuming (and hoping) it's only in synchronous mode to facilitate the titular network testing; if Generator Defense shows up in the final game this Fall (and I hope it does, I love the concept of the gametype), I sincerely hope it will use "asyncronous mode" like all the other competitive gametypes.

Little laggy, but really fun. I think it would be more fun with more generators and larger teams; maybe 4-5 generators and 5v5 teams.
The map itself is fantastic, I can't wait to play some regular Slayer or CTF on it.

Played two games didnt like it at all, due to the fact that two Generators go down fairly easily, then the last one all the spartans have got to do is sit there and Hold X to put the shields on.

The time the generator shields take cooling down should be increased.

Though the map is great.

It's all fun and games until someone files a restraining order.

Only played one game so far. Too laggy. After I get my arena daily rating I'll play a few more games and then update my post.

Still laggy. But really funny. We were second to defend and when it said spartans win my teammate betrayed my other teammate and then me. So really quickly I picked to boot him right before the screen when black. Revenge!!!

Okay, here's what I've found.

Generator Lock needs tweaking. I'd like to see it be on a sliding scale. The more you use it, the shorter it lasts and the longer it takes to cool down. If you allow a decent gap between locks (say, 20 seconds), then it'll reset to base stats. As it is, all people do is spam the thing like crazy.

I'd also like to see a full ramp put into the entrance of Bravo generator. The tin is annoying.

Have a "Pro" variant increase the game to four generators with 4v4 games. You do have that massive area behind the base. Or even the area below!

I trust the lag issues will be fixed.

And it's a horrible stench.

Both of the games I've played have had a pretty bad case of horrible input delay. I'm trying to be optimistic, but it's very hindering from a gameplay perspective.

I think you should only be able to lock down one generator at a time, and the cool down time MUST be longer. Other than that I LOVE Generator Defense. I really would love this in the full game.

that was one of my issues as well.

Only other thing I noticed was that once there was only one generator left the defenders just camped the spot and kept locking it up instantly so even if we killed them we had to wait 30 seconds giving them plenty of time to come back and kill us and wait for it to open again only to close it again.

Other than that its a great gametype and something new and I see great potential with the game after a few tweaks here and there it should be awesome.

Some people complain that you have to wait 5 seconds to re lock a generator and it should be instant. I disagree that would be a horrible idea and only be abused by people camping the generator and make it way to difficult to try and destroy it. If anything make the generators cool down time a little longer.

And the sudden death timer was broken. It said sudden death and the timer only said 0 seconds remaining and stayed there for a few seconds so I didnt know when it was going to end.

I have yet to experience more enjoyable games that keep me coming back for more.

(Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3 and ODST)

I would enjoy this map and gametype a lot more if their was no input lag. Since its a test, I'll assume thats why it laggy.

QUESTION: Bungie, is this map more graphically complete than the other 3 maps?

I agree with the making the generators not insta-lockable as soon as they unlock. That can get spammy.

And if you lock the gen and then time runs out during a sudden death it stops the clock at 00 and waits until the gen unlocks to end the match,
