A good player should always defeat a bad player on an even playing field, yes or no?

What? On an even playing field, both would have an equal chance.

Duracell.
I don't keep going and going and going and...
but i Start, and just don't Stop.

So what if the saxophone is black?
it has better tone the the gold one.
damn straight i play Jazz.

i agree the weapons need larger clips, not larger damage, but i think your phrasing is wrong.

And when a first person shooter comes down to chance, then you have a problem.

Skill should always trump luck. Always. Two players using the same weapon, the better player should win.

Ok, so you're playing Halo Reach, right? You're using the Assault Rifle, and you kill a guy. There is 7 bullets left in your clip. Another guy is coming up fast and he's shooting you. Uh oh. What do you do?

-Switch to your other weapon, (wasting a precious second) which might not even be effective in the situation.

-Reload your Assault Rifle (again wasting time) as you are shot repeatedly. Death is inevitable.

-Press LT repeatedly.

If you picked the third option, unfortunately, you're right. It is the only thing you can do in this situation to stay alive.

I would run to cover while reloading, drawing the guy behind me. I would wait for him to come to me, start shooting, jump above him, and try to punch him in the back. At least, that's what I would do. A lot of quick-thinking battle strategy can prevail in any situation, good gun or bad gun. It's not always Bungie's fault for certain situations that you happen to lose. I'm not saying that yours may be one of those, but a lot of people are complaining over issues that are their fault for not thinking them through.

Hmm... other than your argument against the Assault Rifle, I agree with you. The Assault Rifle is supposed to be an equalizer, so that newbies have a leg to stand on during the learning process.

But yeah, the other weapons need to be given s'more ammo per clip. They're a little too scarce, especially for a spartan fighting elites.

Edit: Actually, let's rumble with some back-and-forth, 'cause I"m not sure where to stand on this.

Why can't a more skilled player learn the ropes and figure out when to break off, reload in safety, and rejoin the fight? What's less skillful about figuring out ways to endure the reloading process safely in the heat of battle?

Was that sarcasm? I have half as many assists as I have kills, dude.

Point is, a teammate isn't always there to bail your ass out. You shouldn't be completely helpless after you kill someone. The health bar is disadvantage enough.

@ Halo 2 Rookie

Increasing the clip size on the Assault Rifle wouldn't make it any less newbie friendly. It wouldn't make it overpowered in the hands of a newbie either, spraying the entire clip at once wouldn't be viable a 6 second kill time is terrible. It would make it usable competitively because reloading after every kill is the one thing holding back the weapon.

I'm cursed with having the worst possible teams ever imaginable. Teams that hand over tanks, and warthogs, rockets and snipers, walk directly into enemies or sit still the entire game. Players that shoot you for having (and being better then them) with whatever weapon, idiots that can't aim, idiots that throw grenades at you long after the enemy was killed.

Maybe they should add an AA that can speed up Reload speed?

Swerving a bit too close to Slight of Hand CoD. Would be more of a perk than an AA.

So you think some guy who doesn't know anything about Basketball could beat Michael Jordan?

Small clip sizes were designed to increase the skill gap between players, and it works nice in 1v1 fights.

If you spam that pistol too fast and your opponent doesn't, you are stuck reloading while he kills you.

But for anything other than 1v1 fights, I agree that the clip sizes are a bit small.

Also, you have to remember the whole game is built around team shooting, just like bungie said.

So, if you are team shooting every time, the clip sizes are fine.

Too bad that's rarely the case.

I can see exactly why the clip sizes are the way that they are, but it is pretty annoying to be honest.

I read the OP and I disagree. The strawman that the OP creates ignores any number of factors: Melee, teammates and bloom at the very least.

Melee: Melee saves ammo, and allows for two-three kills per clip if not an infinite amount, eg. pistols get 2 kills per clip, four shot then melee.

Teammates: To say that the skill gap is removed because you can only kill one lesser player per clip then their teammate comes to kill you is inane. Your TEAM is less skilled to not be covering your back and is therefore punished for it. Reach isn't about you, you, you it is about the team, so yes, your "skills" don't mean jack against a coordinated group of players.

Bloom: To say that the skill gap has been lessened because of small clips is inane, if anything small clips plus bloom drastically increase the skill gap. I can't count how often I 5 shot some noob who's already on his 7'th pistol round in my direction because they miss and I don't spam. Bloom is meant to work with small clips to increase the skill gap, but most people don't know how to work it yet, so they make complaint threads about it instead.

OP speaks the truth. I 100% agree about the clip size of the Magnum and you make a very good point for the AR even though i don't use it.

Fix this and reticule bloom and you've got the most skill based halo ever.

RIP, deleted account due to inactivty because I was too busy playing Halo 2. The bees and scripted E3 trailer will never be forgotten.

After reading this thread I agree with what you're saying (your old thread around the lines of "AR needs to have 60 bullets" just made me assume you wanted an exact Halo 1 revival)

As long as the AR has enough bloom and power to make it a decent weapon, but not too easy to use and dare I say it, actually act like an Assault Rifle (aren't they supposed to kill people from medium range?) I'm all for it.

And the magnum defiently needs a larger clip.

A quick fix would be to just spawn people one grenade though.

yes ive gotten use to the bloom but the clip is another story.

in example

Your Magnum has 8 shots

4 to take out shields 1 headshot
you now have 3 shots left and another enemy follows
u don't have enough to take out their shields even.

It's a Team Fortress 2 thing, regularly it's a compliment. :)

and I totally agree, it should be 2-3 kills per mag with good accuracy unaided with melee or nades.

AR and DMR need more ammo. The pistol reloads pretty quickly so I haven't had many problems with it.

  • 05.11.2010 10:05 PM PDT
  • reply edit unleash ninjas

I definitely agree. I wish the DMR had a few more bullets in the clip, the pistol definitely needs a bigger clip, and the AR needs more as well. Maybe not the 60 as from the original (although that would be awesome) it needs more. DMR could use 15, pistol 10 or 12, AR at least 45.

Increasing clip size on starting weapons would DECREASE skill gap because people could spam bullets more.

/thread

Not at all.

Spamming bullets is ineffective anyway.

You don't want 100 bullet magazines, but you also don't want people having to reload after every kill.

In fact, its not just the AR, all weapons either need faster kill times or larger magazines. When you have a situation where too many battles are being decided by the fact that one guy has to reload, which with pretty much every gun in this game, happens if you are near 2 people, thats a problem.

That's their answer for everything though. Quick fixes.

They halved the number of grenades you can use in Halo 3 because people were "spamming" them in Halo 2. This was because the grenades were so nerfed (requiring more to achieve the same effect) and many weapons were underpowered, because of dual wielding. Half the weapon sandbox was ineffective without a second "half weapon". So you run into a guy with a BR, what do you do? Start chucking grenades.

In Halo 3 they didn't fix the weapon sandbox issue. They added even more useless weapons and put 6-10 BRs on every map. People still chucked grenades all over the place, because again, if you didn't have a BR, you were in big trouble.

In Halo Reach people are still spamming grenades because the weapons are so ineffective. Again. This has been going on for three Halo games now. Melee and grenades remain powerful while weapons get worse and worse. Halo Reach took a step in the right direction with lots of guns, mostly on the Covenant side of things, but the human weapons need some serious work. Bigger clips would be a good start. The long kill times we can tackle in another thread but apparently it's supposed to promote "teamwork".

@ Havoc1228

You're telling me. I can't count how many "Opportunist" medals I have now, almost every third kill probably. I doubt anyone at Bungie sees that as a problem though.
